Our Story
We are a small breeder in Salt Lake City that does not plan to have many litters, just when we happen to own a dog that can better the breed.
Our story started with a dog named Piney… We scooped up a little bundle of gold with no idea the amount of trainability and adventure this little boy possessed. He would do anything for a ball, loved swimming, and it was impossible to ignore his joy trying out local agility equipment. We have not stopped training and exploring with our dogs since.
We believe that everyone deserves the chance to experience the world alongside a confident, joyful, intelligent, easy-going dog that fits right in no matter what you ask of them.
Our Intentions
At Pitchpine Retrievers, our goal is to thoughtfully breed Golden Retrievers that are healthy, versatile, and a joy to live with. We strive to produce puppies that excel first as beloved family companions while also possessing the intelligence, drive, and trainability to succeed in hunting, performance sports, therapy work, or hiking up mountains at your side.
Our dogs are cherished members of our family sleeping on our bed every night, and puppies are raised in our home, where they receive daily interaction, enrichment, and training. Every breeding is carefully planned with health, temperament, structure, and longevity in mind. All of our breeding dogs complete comprehensive OFA health testing and genetic screening appropriate for the breed, and we only breed dogs that meet our high standards. While no breeder can promise a puppy will never develop a hereditary condition, we do everything possible to make informed breeding decisions and we will take back any of our dogs at any time in their lives.
Beyond health testing, our dogs are active participants in hunting, agility, and other performance events that demonstrate the hallmark Golden Retriever temperament—confident, biddable, friendly, and eager to please. We believe in preserving the breed’s natural versatility while producing dogs that are sound in both mind and body.
From the day they are born, our puppies are raised with intention. They are exposed to a variety of people, sounds, surfaces, toys, and new experiences to help build confidence and resilience. Before going home, puppies are introduced to crate training, started on potty training, and receive age-appropriate veterinary care, including their first vaccinations, deworming, and a complete health examination. Additionally, we temperament test our puppies to match each puppy to their future family.
